Thank you to all the parents who attended the Troop 60 Parent Meeting last night! We discussed the upcoming year’s schedule, the updated Troop Handbook, fundraising and popcorn sales, and solicited commitments for adult leadership on campouts and outings. We also talked about the new and improved Youth Protection Training, which is required by all before October 1, 2018. Links to YPT training are available via the Council website or Scouting.org/training. Be sure to print your completion certificate and give a copy to the Scoutmaster.
Our Popcorn Kernal conveyed that we will be doing an electronic sign-up to staff booths around town during the six weeks of popcorn sales, so watch for more information related to that service and fundraising opportunity. We also talked about additional funding opportunities so that the Scouts can participate in even more fun activities this coming year.
Our Advancement Chair relayed information about Scoutbook (our advancement record system) and how to join our Remind messaging app. She also handed out updated printouts of each Scout’s advancement report and encouraged parents to stay informed about their youth’s progress in Scouting.
A helpful parent advised newer members to help their child if he misses a meeting to catch up on missed merit badge materials promptly, which is excellent advice! When we work on merit badges in troop meetings, each youth receives a workbook and there are many online materials to help guide them if they miss a meeting. Links to merit badge information are on this website under the Forms and Files tab above. A number of Scouts have almost completed a bunch of merit badges.
The Scoutmaster requested that as youth complete physicals for school or athletics, parents turn in a copy so the medical records are updated each fall. The BSA medical form (parts A, B, and C) are included in Forms and Files, and you can attach a school or other physical as part C along with a copy of the youth’s insurance card.
The 2018-19 Troop Guide and Schedule will be posted in Forms and Files shortly.
Last but not least, one Scout had his Scoutmaster Conference for his LIFE rank advancement! Congratulations, and good luck to both Scouts planning Board of Reviews next week!
REMINDER: BEGINNING NEXT WEEK, OUR MEETINGS WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE WESLEY CENTER ON UNIVERSITY PARKWAY.
